Configure DSL modem on LAN port

1) Before we start, make sure your LAN card is properly installed.
2) In XP click Start-->> control panel-->> Network connections-->> Right click "local Area connection"-->> properties

3) Local Area Connection properties windows will open.
  select TCP/IP-->>properties
 

4) Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties windows will open.Enter the IP and DNS address   provided by your ISP-->> ok
 

The default IP address for ADSL MODEM is: 192.168.1.1. Modem IP address ( 192.168.1.1) is used in default gateway so that any traffic generated by PC is sent by default to modem. The Subnet Mask for IP 192.168.1.XX series is 255.255.255.0.
 
DNS address is given by ISP.
 
Users can configure ADSL MODEM through an Internet browser. ADSL MODEM can be used as gateway, users need to set the computer's TCP/IP protocol as follow:
 
Set the computer IP address at same segment of ADSL MODEM, such as set the IP address of the network card to one of the "192.168.1.2 -- 192.168.1.254". Set the computer's gateway the same IP address as the ADSL Modem's.
5) Open any browser (IE / mozila / opera), in adrees bar type default gateway address (192.168.1.1).Browser will ask username and password for the modem. The default username and password for modem is written in the modem manual. Generall username and password for modem is: 
User Name : admin
Password : admin / password
 
Enter username and password-->>Ok
6) Modem configuration windowds will open.
  Click on WAN in left pane-->>Edit
7) Put VPI, VCI value as shown below-->> Next. The below value is for Airtel Broadband. This value depend on your ISP.
 
8) Select Connection Type , we will choose heer, PPPoE -->> Next
 
9) Now you will be asked for PPP Username and Password. Enter username and password given by your ISP.
 
10) Click next -->> Next -->> Save -->> Save and reboot. Modem will reboot.
 
11) After reboot, again click on WAN, and see if you see any IP. If you have got IP, than your internet is ready to surf. If you see, PPP down as status, than turn off modem for 2 min, and again turn on the modem.
