What is Broadband:
Broadband refers to telecommunication in which a wide band of frequencies is available to transmit information. Because a wide band of frequencies is available, information can be multiplexed and sent on many different frequencies or channels within the band concurrently, allowing more information to be transmitted in a given amount of time.In general we can say, broadband, is high speed Internet access.
Broadband services were launched in India in 2005. ADSL services now cover 300 towns with a combined 1.5 million connections, while broadband wireless subscriber figures are still negligible.
Indian telcos and ISPs are taking varied approaches to broadband rollouts. Some prefer the wired route while others believe that wireless technology is going to be the mainstay of a successful broadband strategy.
Broadband is a collective term for a group of technologies that enable high-speed Internet access, at speeds of up to two megabits per second (Mbps). That is up to 40-times faster than the conventional dial-up medium. DSL is the most commonly used technology in the broadband market today.
Broadband is going to change the way companies work as it facilitates new services such as video conferencing and expands multi-service capabilities for companies, enabling them to combine huge volumes of voice, data and video and send it anywhere with ease. This means that new business opportunities and avenues are likely to come up. Broadband, for instance, makes telecommuting a practical option.
